Youth4AM Leadership Program 2024

At Youth4AM, we strive to provide our TAs with the best possible opportunities to grow, learn, and develop their skills. We are excited to offer these additional programs and incentives to our TAs, and we hope that you will take advantage of them. You can still apply as a TA, but you will have to email youth4am@gmail.com after submitting your application. We only have ~100 spots and we’re accepting TAs on a rolling basis, so apply soon!

Youth4AM is a five-year leadership development program with a mission to foster future leaders, provided by the New York Residents Alliance (NYRA), a federally registered 501(3c) nonprofit organization.

We not only teach forward-looking soft and hard skills to prepare high school students for college and careers, but we also advocate for community service so students can uphold integrity and benefit our community for future generations to come. We inspire youth to promote their dual identities, to voice their opinions in American democracy, and display their pride by promoting diligence, progress, and familial harmony. Through the SHSAT summer camp, we provide test prep at $5.83/hour or less—much more affordable than many other test prep programs in an effort to expand education to all.

  1. No five-year quality youth leadership development program is offered for FREE. A closed one offered by elite universities charges $4000-6000 for a 4-6 week summer program. 
  2. We teach forward-looking skills such as writing, public speaking, social media marketing, data analysis, project management, teamwork, and leadership to have long-term success in college and future careers.   
  3. Participating in Youth4AM boosts students’ college applications as a community extracurricular and with real-life-experience-inspired content for essays & resumes, recommendations, PVSA (Presidential Volunteer Service Award), senator certifications, awards, etc. 
  4. We offer paid opportunities for high school and college students or new graduates under 24 in areas such as digital marketing, IT, project management, tutoring via SYEP, Ladders for Leaders, and NYRA.

Our members are admitted to prestigious colleges such as Harvard University, Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Michigan, New York University, SUNY, etc. Youth4AM has been recognized and/or certified by many local elected officials including Mayor Eric Adams, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, New York City Council Member Linda Lee, Sandra Ung, Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senator John Liu, State Senator Toby Ann Starviski, State Senator Andrew Gounardes, State Assemblyman William Colton, State Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, State Assemblyman Ron Kim, etc.

There are 30 classes in total. Youth4AM’s classes will take place VIRTUALLY over Zoom.

WARMUP SESSIONS: Saturday, June 1, 2024, to Saturday, June 29, 2024

5 Saturdays, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM 

DAILY SESSIONS: Monday, July 8, 2024, to Friday, August 9, 2024

5 weeks, Mondays through Fridays, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM 

 or 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM if you’re in SYEP

VIRTUAL OPENING CEREMONY on Monday, July 8, 2024

PAID 1-ON-1 TUTOR:

  • After the summer camp ends for the year, TAs exemplifying excellent behavior have the opportunity to get paid through providing one-on-one tutoring to students whose parents are requesting extra help. 
  • TAs who received a score of excellent in their evaluations (AFTER/NEAR THE END of the summer program)
  • When the application comes out later in the program, you will indicate your hours and days of availability for tutoring between the end of Youth4AM’s sessions on 8/9/2024 to before the start of the SHSAT test.

SYEP:

  • Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) connects NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experiences each summer. SYEP allows you to be paid for the work you do for Youth4AM.
  • You must submit ANOTHER application, not just through Youth4AM, but through SYEP too: https://application.nycsyep.com/. Apply before March 15th, 2024.
  • Prospective TAs from 14 up to the age of 24
  • When applying to SYEP, select Chinese American Planning Council – Manhattan and Chinese American Planning Council – Queens as your top two providers, no matter where you reside. Order doesn’t matter.
  • SYEP chooses participants by lottery.

We are trying to increase our outreach to as many people as possible. If you encourage others to apply as well—the application includes a “How did you learn about our program?” question, and others can list your name in that field—we will take that into account when evaluating your application.

Additionally, if you would like to be in the same group as a friend, you can both put each other’s names in the “TA Group Preferences” question! We will do our best to honor all requests.

Youth4AM 2020 Program

At the center of Youth4AM’s projects is project management. Led by seasoned corporate executives and entrepreneurs, incoming TAs learned about the characteristics and qualities of a leader and how to manage big projects more efficiently. The powerpoint below covers the fundamental steps of project management: Planning, Allocation, Execution, and Evaluation. Leadership attributes such as being responsible, committed, reliable, and taking initiatives are emphasized as well.
