2023 TA Seminar Recap

In March of 2023, Youth4AM held a TA Seminar where Department Directors explained the goal of the program to prospective TAs and the departments within to encourage high schoolers to apply as a TA.

First, our TA director, Erica Liu, started off by introducing the event and explaining our program’s expectations for aspiring TAs.

These are all the departments we have within our program. There is an Academics, Administration, Marketing, IT, and Business Development department. The directors of each department explained their roles and responsibilities within the program to inform prospective TAs of them, encouraging them to apply.

Erica Liu then explained the TA hierarchical structure of the program, with people just joining starting off as a TA, and then working their way up the hierarchy based on their work within the program.

These are the TA expectations from Youth4AM. They are expected to take attendance and log their own hours as well as teach students, keep track of recordings, note scores, and send out weekly student reports to guardians.

Youth4AM’s main platform of communication is Discord, as it is the most efficient and organized way for middle school and high school students to communicate. TAs are invited to the general Youth4AM Discord and other leadership are invited to a separate one.

Next, Carol Xu from the Academics Department explains their role in Youth4AM and their own expectations for TAs.

Then, Emily Tong from the Administration Department explained the department’s role in the program as well as their TA expectations.

Next, Shiqi Chen from the Marketing Department explained the department’s role and expectations for TAs.

Next, Jennifer Chen from the IT department shared the department’s role in Youth4AM and their TA expectations.

Finally, Carol Xu, Shiqi Chen, and Erica Liu gave testimonials about their experiences in the program and what they have learned throughout the years. After sharing their experiences, they opened up the floor to any questions from the prospective TAs.

We hope you will consider becoming a TA at Youth4AM! As a TA, you will learn several valuable soft and hard skills from being part of this program, including communication, organization, interpersonal skills, and even public speaking. If you apply to become a TA, you also have the option to apply for a leadership position in one of our many departments in charge of our program’s behind-the-scenes. As a TA, you will be tutoring middle schoolers one-on-one and giving lessons to your groups (approximately 10 students per group). You are in charge of keeping track of your student’s scores and reporting their behavior, habits, participation, and grades to their parents every week. It is expected of you to report your own hours and keep everything organized. If you do well as a TA, you will be promoted as a TA Leader the next year in Youth4AM, where you will oversee your group of TAs and students. If you continue to perform well in the program, you will be promoted again in the coming years as TA Manager and Director in a specific department. In the case that you want to become a manager and director, it is important that you look into each department’s responsibilities and apply to one that interests you! Please make sure to submit a TA application to Youth4AM!
