2024 Youth4AM Closing Ceremony

The Youth4AM SHSAT Summer Camp & Leadership Development Program had its 6th annual Closing Ceremony on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 from 9:30am to 11:30am EST to celebrate the end of classes and students’ and TAs’ hard work during the summer! Keynote speaker CEO Angela Hu began the ceremony with a presentation about nurturing global leadership in an AI driven world. She ended the presentation with more information about the Sino-US Bridge Program’s progress, team, and outreach, as well as future tutoring opportunities with Youth4AM.

Assemblymember Lester Chang, Stanley Ng, Assemblymember Edward Braunstein, and Congresswoman Grace Meng joined us to give inspiring speeches about education, self advocacy, and participation in government. 

Assemblymember Lester Chang spoke about the importance of participation in government by voting to represent your community. He told us about his trip to China and how the SUBP is working towards a goal to get more exchange students into China. He explains how progressive China’s new technology and impressive use of AI is. He urges students and TAs to be more flexible and make career choices that interest you.

Stanley Ng, Susan Zhuang’s office manager, wished students the best of luck on the SHSAT and congratulated them on their hard work this summer. 

Assemblymember Edward Braunstein reiterates the importance of participating in politics and how people can make changes for the better by voting. He stresses how less than 50% of eligible young voters vote.

Congresswoman Grace Meng praises what Youth4AM represents and encourages students to stay active in their community.

TA managers Vicky Lin, Jeremy Shiu, and Yvonne Fong presented for the Academics department. They explained how they made homework and classwork, weekly reports, TA evaluations, and what role their department plays in the success of the SHSAT camp. 

TA director Erica Liu and Director-in-Training Andre Wang presented for the Administration department. In addition to going over the process for TA and student admission and managing SYEP & Ladders for Leaders, they also explained many crucial life skills that they have learned, as well as encouraging students to join as a TA in high school.

TA director Jennifer Chen presented for the IT department. She went over the various tasks that the IT department handles, such as the website, emails, and Google Drive. She also described the ICER process that’s used to identify and solve IT problems. Finally, she explained the soft and hard skills she’s learned in the IT department and how promotions work within the Youth4AM SHSAT camp.

Director-in-Training Andre Wang presented for the Marketing department. He explains the responsibilities and results, as well as how task prioritization works in the marketing department. He concludes with all the achievements and projects that have been accomplished this year.

Heartfelt testimonials were given by TAs Sydney Liu and Lidia Wang, leadership Yvonne Fong, Andre Wang, Erica Liu, and students Mario Tang, Jillian Wong, and Dana Lu. TAs reflected on their summer and new skills that they’ve developed. Leadership described the path they took that got them to their position and what the Youth4AM community means to them. Students recounted fun memories, thanked teachers and TAs, and talked about their improvement.

Councilwoman Sandra Ung was the final speaker to speak. She praised both the academic and life skills that students and TAs have learned throughout this program and emphasized giving back to your community.

Concluding the ceremony, awards were presented to students and TAs to honor them for their hard work and achievements throughout the summer.
